2 More People Have Been Detained In Connection With The Bengali Teachers’ Employment Scheme
On February 19, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained two more West Bengal residents for their claimed participation in the teacher recruitment scam.
Those detained include middleman Niladri Ghosh, who is thought to be close to Mondal, and Tapas Mandal, a close aide of Manik Bhattacharya, the former head of the West Bengal primary education board.
The TMC youth leader Kuntal Ghosh’s arrest, according to the CBI, brought Niladri Ghosh’s identity to light. Kuntal Ghosh repeatedly asserted during questioning that Tapas Mondal and his assistant Niladri Ghosh were conspiring against him and were also personally involved in the scam.
Tapas Mondal is the owner of a teacher training facility and a previous leader of a group of private B.Ed. colleges. After Mondal’s name came up during the investigation into the teachers’ recruitment scam, both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate performed raids on his home and office on multiple occasions.
On February 19, Mondal and Niladri Ghosh were both called into the CBI office in Kolkata’s Nizam Palace for interrogation. The central investigation agency detained both of them for their claimed involvement in the recruitment scam after extensive questioning.
Both Mondal and Niladri Ghosh were taken by CBI agents to the SSKM hospital in Calcutta for a standard medical examination. “I have been cooperating with the CBI, still I don’t know why they have arrested me,” Tapas Mondal told the media as he was being brought to the hospital.
The CBI will be presenting both of them before a special court in Kolkata on February 20.
