Conrad K. Sangma, The Chief Minister Of Meghalaya, Withdraws After PM Modi Was Denied Permission To Hold An Election Rally
Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya and the leader of the National People’s Party (NPP), argued that neither he nor his group was responsible for the PA Sangma Sports Complex in Tura’s denial of approval for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election rally. The West Garo Hills district officials have been notified by the Sports department that permission cannot be granted for the PM to hold his rally there due to potential safety hazards posed by construction debris. Prior to the February 27 assembly poll, the saffron party, which last month severed ties with an ally, the NPP, claimed that the incumbent party was attempting to stop a wave of the BJP in the state.
The chief minister claimed on February 20 that the BJP’s accusation was untrue because the Election Commission now includes the district office and grants permissions for rallies.
Sangma added that the sizeable crowd the PM would attract may be the reason for denying permission.
Just two months after its opening, the BJP had questioned how a venue could be deemed incomplete and unavailable for the PM’s rally. The inauguration day for the arena was December 16 of last year.
