Guru Smaranam 2023 was organised by Srijan Chhanda, under the ICCR Horizon Series. It is an institution dedicating its mission to Indian Classical Dance & Music. Every year the institution organises many cultural evenings, workshops & seminars to honour the Odissi dance form. This year Srijan Chhanda came up with the horizon series of ICCR to pay adulation to late Guru Shri Kelucharan Mahapatra and observe his 19th death anniversary. The programme was compered by Neeladyuti Chaudhury
From the traditional expertise of the “Chitrakaras” through the entertaining art of the “Gotipua” and “Jatra” parties, the “bhakti” oriented “rasa leela” performances and the innovative attempts of the Annapurna Theatre, Guruji’s artistic journey is one of continuous learning and growth.
In the world of dance, the ethereal ‘jugalbandis’ between Pandit Birju Maharaj and Odissi doyen Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra are fondly remembered. The legends have left for their heavenly abodes, but the aesthetics of their duets can never fade away from the memories of those who have witnessed the sheer magic on stage. In their memory a beautiful amalgamation of Odissi & Kathak was presented which reminded us the friendship and bond between both of them. To carry forward the legacy, Srijan Chhanda presented – Nrityanjali – under the direction of Sri Rajib Bhattacharya & Smt Paramita Maitra. Accompanying participants were Ranjabali Dey, Shrinjoyi Chhetri , Kamalika Bose , Anushree Paul , Saradia Dutta and Satabdi Majhi. Thereafter Inauguration and Pushpanjali was done by Sri Rajib Bhattachryya and the eminent personalities.
