CMD EIL, Ms.Vartika Shukla conferred Business Leader of the Year Award

Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) organised an Exclusive Session with Lt. Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command on “CIVIL-MILITARY FUSION” on Friday, 30 June 2023 at 6.30 PM at Kitchener House, Fort William.

The central idea of this Exclusive Session is to embark on the path of creating a Civil-Military Fusion, which promotes collaboration, sharing of resources, and leveraging each sector’s strength for national prosperity.

Lt. Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command in his address emphasized the importance of collaboration and implementation of a civil-military fusion strategy which utilizes the capabilities of a nation in order to achieve comprehensive security and deter adversaries. He said that interactions between the defence, academia, government, and industry would help to meet future requirements of the country. Lt Gen Kalita also touched upon the need for building capacities for dual-use technology and investment in R&D for developing niche capabilities and indigenous production.  

He also pointed out that the Government of India has already implemented the initiatives like “Make in India” which helps the country to become self-sufficient in producing military weapons and equipment for the Defence sector and reduce the dependency on imports.  

Lt. Gen Kalita mentioned that the Defence sector is ready to create military-industry fusion including force preservation and sustainability, clothing and supplies, energy and communication, medical requirements, industrial capacities, and waste management.

“By integrating civilian expertise with military resources and operational knowledge, governments can enhance their ability to counter emerging threats, safeguard critical infrastructure, and respond to security challenges more effectively”, said Shri Namit Bajoria, President, MCCI

Shri Bajoria further mentioned that the collaboration between civil society and the military can also drive economic growth and innovation. Military research and development efforts often lead to technological advancements that have significant civilian applications. By fusing military R&D with civilian R&D, governments can promote innovation, create new industries, and boost economic competitiveness.

The Session concluded with the Hearty Vote of Thanks proposed by Shri Rishabh C. Kothari, Immediate Past President, MCCI. Shri Kothari said that any nation’s civil and military sectors should function in a collaborative partnership to strengthen the nation’s civil and military capacities and boost the country’s defence.
