Tehsildar’s Rollercoaster Resignation: Madhya Pradesh Official’s Dramatic Reversal

Amita Singh Tomar, a notable figure in the Madhya Pradesh revenue department, has recently captured attention for her unexpected resignation and equally surprising retraction from her post as Tehsildar. Tomar’s journey took an unexpected twist, marked by her significant win on Amitabh Bachchan’s popular quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ and her subsequent resignation due to professional dissatisfaction. While her resignation sent shockwaves, her swift change of heart left many intrigued.

A decade ago, Amita Singh Tomar etched her name in television history by winning an impressive Rs 50 lakh on the iconic ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’. The achievement brought her recognition and applause. However, her recent resignation from the position of Tehsildar in Sheopur, where she was posted, raised eyebrows and ignited conversations.

Tomar’s decision to step down followed the division of responsibilities among government officials by the newly appointed collector of Sheopur. Feeling undervalued and overlooked, Amita Tomar believed her seniority was ignored, and she wasn’t assigned substantial tasks. In a heartfelt resignation letter, she expressed her frustration, stating, “For the last five years, I have been insulted. I thought I would be given the charge of the Tehsil when the new Collector was appointed, but that did not happen. I am mentally traumatized by this.”

Her discontentment stemmed from a five-year period during which she held various positions without a specific role. Presently, she serves as a chief officer responsible for managing land records. The resignation, submitted to the Assistant Collector, quickly made rounds on social media, drawing attention to her plight.

However, just when her resignation seemed irrevocable, a surprising twist ensued. A day after her formal resignation, Tomar submitted an application to the Additional Collector, urging him not to accept her resignation. The sudden reversal left many baffled and curious about the circumstances that prompted this change of heart.

Tomar’s reluctance to provide public statements, citing her “mental condition,” further intensified the mystery surrounding her actions. Her decision to withdraw her resignation only fuelled speculation about the underlying factors that prompted her about-face.

The District Collector of Sheopur, Sanjay Kumar, addressed the situation, shedding light on the circumstances. He explained that Amita Singh Tomar, a senior Tehsildar with four years of service, was slated for a transfer in compliance with the Election Commission’s regulations. Consequently, she wasn’t assigned a new role in light of her imminent transfer. The District Collector acknowledged that while the transfer was in line with regulations, the decision to resign by a senior official was unanticipated and would be addressed with higher authorities.

This is not the first time Amita Singh Tomar’s actions have garnered attention. In 2019, she faced suspension for posting an allegedly “objectionable” comment on Facebook, which reportedly contained religious undertones. Additionally, in 2017, she wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that she was subjected to frequent transfers.
