Place : Kolkata / World Post Day was observed by India Post across India on 9th October 2023. Theme of World Post Day 2023 was “Together for trust: Collaborating for a safe and connected future”
World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969. Since then, countries across the world participate annually in the celebrations. The Postal systems in many countries use the observance to introduce or promote new postal products and services.
India Post across India observed World Post Day on 9th October 2023. India Post West Bengal Circle, observing World Post Day and National Postal Week from 9th October to 13h October 2023.
Shri Anil Kumar Post Master General MM and BD West Bengal Circle briefed media on India Post West Bengal Circle achievements. Based on the theme of 2023 “Together for Trust”, India Post initiated several measures to connect with common people .
India Post is playing critical role in the socio-economic development of the nation.West Bengal Postal Circle, in the wake of economic upheaval in the post covid period, has excelled on a trail of services such as DNK, Parcel Packaging Units, ODOP and other social security benefits through AePs. These services are provided to people in line with the ethos of Digital India.
To take the services at the door step of the common people, West Bengal Circle has also started the Dak Community Development Program which is being conducted in each division on a monthly basis. The events aim to bring under one roof all the services of the Department and to cater to the needs of the people.
West Bengal Circle is also one of the forerunners in providing hassle free international mail service through Dak Niryat Kendra presently operational in 30 locations, booking EMS merchandise and documents, international air parcels and also registered letter and packets. India Post started Express Cargo Service jointly with Indian Railways. The special focus of the service is on e-commerce customers and MSMEs.
Any customer can transport items weighing between 35 kgs and 100kgs. Number of parcels booked from January to August 2023 in West Bengal Circle is 10721. Total charges amounting is INR 3138373/-.
India Post earned INR 1261351/- as charges of parcel business operation. India Post West Bengal Circle has shown growth in its revenue during the FY 2022-23. Total revenue achieved in Speed Post document and Parcel was INR 196.39 cr and that of other BD products was INR 97.78 cr. India Post is observing Postal Week to spread awareness of its wide range of services amongst the common people in the society as well as how common people can benefit from the various services in everyday life.
