Special Session on ‘Revolutionizing Supply Chain Strategies for MSMEs’ at MCCI Conference Hall
Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry organized a Session on ‘Revolutionizing Supply Chain Strategies for MSMEs’ today at MCCI Conference Hall.The Session was held in association with Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM) and was addressed by Shri A K Dey, National Councillor, IIMM;Shri Sudipto Basu, Former Head of Materials, Hindalco, Blue Star, Starling & Wilson and Chairman, MDP & Consultancy Services, IIMM and Shri Sanjay Gupta, Former Head of Supply Chain, PepsiCo, Project Management Consultant & Business Strategist, Secretary & Faculty at IIMM.
In his Welcome Address, Shri Sanjib Kumar Kothari, Treasurer & Chairman, Council on MSMEs, MCCI said that for enhancing capacity, MSMEs need to understand the requirements of their customers and tailor their logistics and supply chain operations accordingly. It is usually observed that larger businesses, owing to their deep pockets, tide over technological disruptions in their supply chain easily, while MSMEs struggle to adapt due to scarcity of capital.In their journey from “Small Business to Smart Business”, as also in this ever- evolving digital landscape, staying competitive requires MSMEs to move beyond conventional approaches. Recognising the importance, MSMEs are adopting digital technologies and embracing transformation to remain agile and efficient, Shri Kothari noted.

Shri Sanjay Gupta spoke about empowering small businesses with innovative supply chain solutions. He felt that Collaboration could play an important role in strategizing supply chain management for MSMEs. He mentioned that strategizing is important, but what is more important is implementation of ideas, digitization of processes, tracking inventories and communication with business partners including buyers. In this whole process, empowering human resources is the key and skill development play a crucial role in this journey of development.
Shri Sudipto Basu spoke about the role IIMM could play a huge role in helping the MSME sector with the right supply chain strategies, which include : building up a partnership, imparting training, providing support, systemizing Operations, Customise scrap sales and digital solutions.
Shri A K Dey stressed upon the importance of supply chain management as the enabler in strategic business decisions. MSME is the backbone of the economy and India could never be able to reach 5 trillion dollar mark without empowerment of MSMEs. The right Supply Chain strategy could be a game changer in this.
The Session ended with a Closing Remarks and Vote of Thanks by Shri Smarajit Mitra, Chairman, Council on HR & Skill Development, MCCI. He mentioned about the proactive role of MCCI in empowering the MSME sector to reach the desired growth level.
