Shillong : 25 November -A workshop was organized by the Department of Zoology, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya on 25th November, 2023 on ‘Values of Wildlife and issues involved in their conservation in Northeast India’. Resource person of the workshop was Prof. Parthankar Choudhury, Dean, E. P. Odum School of Environmental Science, Assam University, Silchar.

The northeast India comprising of the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim is a mega biodiversity zone and a biodiversity hotspot. Biodiversity embraces whole life of the earth shows variability among living organism from all sources which includes biodiversity within species, between species and of eco-systems.

The workshop was envisaged at knowing and understanding the concept and importance of wildlife and the issues concerned with animal & forest conservation in Northeast India for maintaining essential ecological process and life support systems, preserving genetic diversity and ensuring sustainable utilization of species. The workshop was attended by two hundred odd participants including faculties, students and research scholars. Mr. Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM felicitated Prof. Choudhury, and requested him to pay frequent visit to the institution and participate in academic exchanges.
