Literature is strengthening Bharat -Romania cultural relationship 

Literature is playing important role in powering India - Romania cultural relationship to move forward.

A  talk titled ” Didi ( Amita Bhose) India and Romania: Bengali Romani Relations ” was organized by Calcutta University ‘s Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies in collaboration with Indian Association for Asian and Pacific Studies on 28th March 2024  in Kolkata.

Internationally renowned Romanian scholar Ms. Carmen Musat-Coman spoke on life of Dr. Amita Bhose ,who was popularly known as Didi to her students. Prof. Sarbani Gooptu chaired the talk session in coordination with Dr. Madhurima Chowdhury.

Prof. Lipi Ghosh spoke on   nuances of India- Romania  Relationship including on MOU signed between Calcutta University and  Babes Bolyai University of Romania in 2022.

Carmen highlighted the works of Amita Bhose who is a pioneer of Bengali (Indian) -Romanian relations through literature and translations. Carmen discussed the impact of Amita Bhose’s work, her legacy and about crossing the boundary of language and territories. Amita Bhose was instrumental in building the cultural bridge between India and Romania since the 1960s. Talk charted her work from the 1960s to the 1990s.

The talk paid homage to Bhose’s work,  discussing her flawless translations of Indian and Sanskrit works ranging from Tagore to the Natyashastra to Romanian; but Bhose’s notable impact lies in the translations of Romanian writers like Mihai Eminescu,  the national poet of Romania.
