Mohit Sharma’s Unfortunate Record in IPL Bowling Figures

News Mania Desk/ Agnibeena Ghosh/25th April 2024

During the match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Mohit Sharma endured a tough outing, conceding 73 runs from his four overs, marking the worst bowling figures in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The table showcasing the worst IPL bowling figures highlights Mohit Sharma’s unfortunate performance, with figures of 0/73 while playing for Gujarat Titans against Delhi Capitals in Delhi in 2024. This surpasses the previous record held by Basil Thampi, who conceded 70 runs while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bengaluru in 2018. Additionally, Yash Dayal conceded 69 runs while representing Gujarat Titans against Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad in 2023.

Rishabh Pant’s aggressive batting in the final over compounded Mohit Sharma’s misery, as Pant smashed 31 runs off the over, including four sixes and one four.

The match saw an interesting turn of events as Shubman Gill, captain of Gujarat Titans, relied on his opening bowlers, with Sandeep Warrier making an impact in his second over by dismissing both Delhi openers and picking up a third wicket as well. However, the spin duo of Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad failed to control the middle phase of the game.

Gill’s decision not to utilize Warrier for the crucial 19th over may have backfired, as he instead entrusted Sai Kishore, who had not bowled a single ball prior to the match, to bowl in a high-pressure situation.

Despite the early setbacks, Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel turned the tide with a sensational century stand, propelling Delhi Capitals to a formidable total of 224/4. The duo shared a scintillating partnership of 113 runs off just 68 balls for the fourth wicket after DC found themselves struggling at 44 for 3 in the initial six overs.

Initially, Pant and Axar played sensibly, focusing on building a partnership. However, once they were well-settled, they unleashed a barrage of aggressive strokes, decimating the opposition bowling attack.

Rishabh Pant, in particular, showcased his aggressive intent, unleashing his trademark shots with confidence, including pick-up shots off his legs, cuts, and pulls. On the other hand, Axar Patel played a supportive role, capitalizing on loose deliveries to find the boundary.

Pant remained unbeaten on 88 runs off 43 balls, featuring five fours and eight sixes, while Axar Patel contributed a valuable 66 runs off 43 balls, comprising five fours and four sixes.

In conclusion, Mohit Sharma’s unfortunate bowling performance marred an otherwise thrilling encounter between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans. Pant and Axar’s aggressive partnership propelled Delhi Capitals to a formidable total, showcasing their ability to turn the game around in challenging situations.
