The Gujarat Titans versus Kolkata Knight Riders IPL 2024 match in Ahmedabad faced abandonment due to heavy rain on Monday, leaving fans disappointed about the lack of on-field action. However, amidst the downpour, KKR’s co-owner, superstar Shah Rukh Khan, managed to lift spirits by spreading love and warmth in the dressing room.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, Shah Rukh Khan made a visit to the Narendra Modi Stadium to meet and encourage his team players. A video shared on KKR’s official social media handle captured heartening moments of King Khan interacting with various members of the team, including mentor Gautam Gambhir, captain Shreyas Iyer, players like Mitchell Starc, Harshit Rana, Sunil Narine, and Rinku Singh. Additionally, the presence of Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta’s children, Jahnavi and Arjun, added to the camaraderie displayed in the dressing room scene.
Following the match abandonment, both KKR and GT maintained their respective positions in the IPL points table. With 19 points in 13 matches, Kolkata Knight Riders secured the top position and became the first team to qualify for the playoffs in the 17th edition of the league. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans, with only 10 points in 13 games, occupied the eighth position and became the third team to be eliminated from playoff contention, joining Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. Despite their recent struggles, the Gujarat franchise had showcased impressive performances in the past two seasons, clinching the championship title in 2022 and finishing as finalists in 2023.
In other IPL matches, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s victory over Delhi Capitals propelled them to the fifth spot in the standings. Having secured their fifth consecutive win, RCB set the stage for a potential knockout clash with Chennai Super Kings on May 18, marking their final match of the league stage. Meanwhile, CSK climbed to the third position in the IPL points table following their 5-wicket triumph against Rajasthan Royals.
Currently, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad occupy the top four spots in the IPL 2024 standings. These teams are poised to qualify for the playoffs, with Qualifier 1 scheduled for May 21 and Eliminator for May 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will host Qualifier 2 on May 24 and the much-anticipated final showdown on May 26.
