The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has strengthened its global footprint by officially launching ICC Iraq at its Global Headquarters in Paris. This new national committee aims to amplify the voice of Iraqi businesses and chambers on the world stage, reflecting ICC’s commitment to global outreach and cooperation.
The inauguration of ICC Iraq brings the total number of ICC national committees to 92, showcasing the organization’s expansive network. A delegation from ICC Iraq joined ICC leaders and staff at the headquarters for the launch event, which was followed by a celebration at the Iraqi Embassy in Paris.
In his remarks at the event, ICC Secretary General John W.H Denton AO emphasized the significance of this expansion. “The context in which businesses operate today is marked by geo-economic and geopolitical tensions, leading to instability, uncertainty, and new challenges in Iraq and beyond. Bringing our mission to Iraq will deliver real value for Iraqi businesses and the real economies in which they operate,” Denton stated.
ICC Iraq will play a crucial role in supporting ICC’s broader institutional goals, which include fostering peace, prosperity, and opportunity for all. The new national committee will focus on local commissions dealing with arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), the digital economy, intellectual property, and trade and investment. These areas are essential for creating a robust business environment in Iraq and integrating it more effectively into the global economy.
The founding members of ICC Iraq are notable figures in the Iraqi business community. Abdulrazaq Al-Zuheere, who serves as the Honorary Chair of ICC Iraq and President of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce (FICC), Mohsin Al Hamed, Chair of ICC Iraq and Al-Asriya Group, and Ahmed Alyasiri, ICC Iraq Secretary General and International Organization Consultant at FICC, will lead the committee. Their leadership and expertise are expected to drive the committee’s success and ensure that it effectively represents Iraqi business interests.
Through the national committee in Iraq, ICC members will contribute to shaping ICC policies and alerting governments to international business concerns. This collaborative effort will help align Iraqi business practices with global standards and enhance their competitiveness.
The launch of ICC Iraq is a significant milestone for the ICC, illustrating its dedication to expanding its influence and support to more regions around the world. By establishing a presence in Iraq, the ICC is not only helping to integrate Iraqi businesses into the global economy but also providing them with a platform to influence international trade policies and practices.
As ICC Iraq begins its operations, it is poised to become a vital part of the ICC network, fostering a conducive environment for business growth and development in Iraq. This initiative underscores the ICC’s mission to promote global trade and investment, ensuring that businesses everywhere can thrive in a stable and prosperous environment.
In conclusion, the official launch of ICC Iraq marks a new chapter for both the ICC and the Iraqi business community. It represents a commitment to collaboration, growth, and the pursuit of opportunities that benefit all stakeholders involved. With its new national committee, ICC Iraq is set to make a significant impact on the global stage, supporting the development and success of Iraqi businesses in an increasingly interconnected world.
