Tamil cinema’s latest sensation, “Raayan,” starring Dhanush, has marked a significant achievement with a stellar opening at the Indian box office. On its first day, the film raked in approximately Rs. 16 crore, setting a new career-high for Dhanush. This impressive debut surpasses his previous record of Rs. 11.25 crore, which was achieved with the 2021 film “Karnan.”
“Raayan” has also made waves internationally, grossing USD 850,000 (about Rs. 7 crore) from overseas markets on its opening day. The film’s global gross, including both domestic and international figures, stands at an impressive Rs. 23 crore.
In Tamil Nadu, “Raayan” grossed nearly Rs. 11 crore, establishing a new first-day record for the actor in the state and surpassing the figures achieved by “Karnan.” Despite its strong performance, the film might have secured additional earnings if it weren’t for competition from high-profile releases like “Deadpool” and “Wolverine,” which affected its availability in some multiplexes. The initial reception has been positive, and the film is expected to continue performing well over the weekend, potentially crossing the Rs. 30 crore mark in Tamil Nadu alone.
The film’s Telugu dubbed version, released in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, garnered Rs. 2.25 crore, which is considered a respectable figure. In Karnataka and Kerala, “Raayan” also recorded strong numbers, setting new records for Dhanush in these regions. Conversely, the Hindi dubbed version of the film struggled, earning only Rs. 25 lakhs on its first day, a disappointing result for the film’s broader Hindi-speaking audience.
A closer look at the territorial breakdown of “Raayan’s” first-day box office collections reveals the following:
- Tamil Nadu: Rs. 11.00 crore
- Andhra Pradesh/Telangana (AP/TS): Rs. 2.25 crore
- Karnataka: Rs. 1.80 crore
- Kerala: Rs. 0.85 crore
- Rest of India: Rs. 0.35 crore
- Total India: Rs. 16.25 crore
Overseas contributions include:
- Middle East: USD 325,000
- United States: USD 90,000
- Canada: USD 65,000
- Malaysia: USD 125,000
- Rest of Asia: USD 75,000
- UK: USD 60,000
- Rest of Europe: USD 50,000
- Oceania: USD 50,000

This impressive opening highlights the strong market appeal of “Raayan” and reflects Dhanush’s growing star power both in India and abroad. With such a promising start, the film is poised to achieve further success as it continues its run in theaters worldwide.
