Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has raised an impressive $200 million since she emerged as the likely Democratic presidential nominee last week. This substantial fundraising haul significantly bolsters her race against the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump.
The campaign revealed its latest fundraising total on Sunday, noting that a remarkable 66% of the donations came from first-time contributors in the 2024 election cycle. These contributions surged following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would exit the race and endorse Harris.
In addition to the financial boost, the Harris campaign has attracted over 170,000 volunteers committed to phone banking, canvassing, and other voter mobilization efforts. With Election Day just 100 days away, this wave of support underscores the campaign’s momentum.
Michael Tyler, the campaign’s communications director, emphasized the excitement surrounding Harris’ candidacy, stating, “The momentum and energy for Vice President Harris is real — and so are the fundamentals of this race: this election will be very close and decided by a small number of voters in just a few states.”
Harris campaigned in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on Saturday, where she drew hundreds to a fundraiser originally planned when Biden was still leading the Democratic ticket. Initially expected to raise $400,000, the event exceeded expectations, bringing in approximately $1.4 million, according to the campaign.
Since Biden’s exit following a disastrous debate performance against Trump on June 27, Harris has quickly garnered widespread Democratic support. Prominent figures such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former House Minority Whip Jim Clyburn, former President Bill Clinton, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have all endorsed her candidacy.
Adding to the endorsement list, former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama announced their support for Harris on Friday. These endorsements from key Democratic leaders and fundraisers have further solidified Harris’ position as the party’s frontrunner.
During the fundraiser on Saturday, Harris acknowledged her status as the “underdog” in the race but expressed confidence in her campaign’s growing strength. “Our campaign is picking up steam,” she said, highlighting the increasing enthusiasm and support from Democratic voters.
Future Forward, the largest super PAC in Democratic politics, announced last week that it had secured $150 million in commitments within the first 24 hours following Biden’s endorsement of Harris. This significant financial backing from donors will be crucial in supporting Harris’ campaign efforts in the coming months.
Democratic candidates for the House and Senate have also experienced a surge in support since Harris emerged as the party’s likely nominee. This wave of enthusiasm reflects the broader Democratic base’s excitement and commitment to securing a victory in the 2024 election.
The Harris campaign’s impressive fundraising achievements and the widespread endorsements from influential Democratic figures demonstrate the strong support for her candidacy. As the election approaches, Harris’ campaign continues to gain momentum, positioning her as a formidable contender in the race against Trump.
