Former President Donald Trump recently revealed that he once offered President Joe Biden a $1 million wager to break 100 in a round of golf, asserting that Biden declined the challenge. Speaking to a receptive audience in St. Cloud, Trump recounted the story, emphasizing his belief that Biden was not up to the golfing challenge. “I said I would take you to any course you want and give you $1 million if you could break 100,” Trump stated. He then added, “He turned me down,” suggesting that Biden’s refusal was indicative of his inability to meet the challenge.
Trump elaborated on the story, noting that after Biden rejected the initial offer, he made a revised bet. “Then I said, I’ll give you ten strokes a side. I’ll give you $1 million if you could beat me. He had no chance,” Trump said, further asserting that Biden’s performance would not be competitive. Trump’s comments painted a picture of Biden as all talk but lacking the requisite skill to back it up.
The issue of golf between Trump and Biden first garnered attention during their presidential campaign debates. Earlier this year, Trump proposed another debate without moderators, suggesting it could rival major sporting events like the Ryder Cup or the Masters. He again included a golf challenge in his offer, stating, “And I will even give Joe Biden 10 strokes a side… and if he wins, I will give the charity of his choice, any charity that he wants, $1 million. And I bet you he doesn’t take the offer.”
Trump took the opportunity to boast about his own golfing prowess, highlighting his achievements in the sport. He claimed to have won two club championships and two additional club titles, underscoring his experience and skill. Trump described his golfing achievements as requiring exceptional skill, contrasting his own abilities with Biden’s, who he described as struggling to hit the ball beyond 50 yards.
In response, Biden had previously suggested a driving contest and referred to his past golf handicap, noting he had once reduced it to a six. Biden challenged Trump to carry his own golf bag during their game, adding a light-hearted competitive twist. Trump, however, dismissed Biden’s claim of a six handicap as “the biggest lie” and later acknowledged Biden’s admission of an eight handicap. Despite this, Trump dismissed Biden’s response as unsubstantiated.
The exchange highlights the ongoing rivalry and public exchanges between the two political figures, with Trump using the golf challenge as a way to underscore his athleticism and critique Biden’s abilities. As both men continue to make headlines, their interactions—whether on the golf course or in political discourse—remain a topic of interest for observers and supporters alike.
