Malayalam cinema legend Mammootty’s high-octane action-comedy film, Turbo, has recently made waves with its early OTT release and impressive box office success. Originally set to premiere on streaming platforms on August 9, the film made a surprise debut on Sony LIV a day earlier, on August 8. This early release allows fans to enjoy the film in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam.

Released theatrically in May 2024, Turbo quickly became a blockbuster, earning positive reviews and achieving super hit status at the box office. The film marks the third collaboration between Mammootty and director Vysakh, and it features Mammootty in the lead role of Turbo Jose. Produced by Mammootty Kampany, the film has been well-received by audiences and critics alike.

The OTT rights for Turbo have reportedly been acquired by Sony LIV for a record-breaking price, marking one of the biggest OTT deals for Mammootty Kampany to date. In addition to the OTT rights, the satellite rights for the film have also been secured. Zee TV has obtained these rights, and the film is set to have its world television premiere on Zee Malayalam, likely during the Onam season of 2024. An official announcement about this television debut is anticipated soon from the film’s makers.

On the financial front, Turbo has achieved significant milestones. As of June 3, Mammootty Kampany announced that the film had surpassed the Rs. 70 crore mark globally. This achievement reflects the film’s widespread appeal and commercial success.

Turbo features a notable cast, including Anjana Jayaprakash, known for her role in Pachuvum Athbhutavilakkum, as the female lead. Kannada actor-director Raj B Shetty plays the primary antagonist, while Telugu actor Sunil appears in a prominent role. The film’s technical team includes cinematographer Vishnu Sarma, composer Christo Xavier, and editor Shameer Muhammed, all contributing to the film’s high production values.

The film has also made an impact internationally, with an Arabic-dubbed version recently released across the GCC and UAE, receiving positive reviews from audiences there. The involvement of Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films in presenting Turbo and Truth Global Films acquiring the overseas rights further underscores the film’s global reach and success.

Overall, Turbo has not only captivated audiences with its dynamic action and engaging story but has also set new benchmarks in terms of OTT deals and international distribution. As Mammootty’s latest venture continues to make headlines, it solidifies his position as a leading figure in Indian cinema and highlights the growing global appeal of Malayalam films.
