Miles Routledge, a British YouTuber who goes by the online moniker “Lord Miles,” has recently found himself at the center of a social media storm. Known for his risky travel escapades, Routledge has been widely condemned for making racist comments about India and Africa, as well as a disturbing “joke” about launching nuclear bombs on India. His actions have ignited a wave of backlash, with many calling out his offensive behavior.
Routledge first gained public attention in 2021 when he ventured into Afghanistan during the Taliban’s takeover, seeking adventure in what he discovered was one of the world’s most dangerous countries according to a Google search. His decision to enter Afghanistan during such a volatile time resulted in him getting stranded amidst the chaos. Despite the perilous situation, Routledge managed to share his experiences online, gaining a following for his seemingly fearless approach to danger. He later claimed in an interview that he would willingly return to Afghanistan for cultural exchanges, reflecting his controversial and thrill-seeking persona.
In late February 2023, during his third visit to Afghanistan, Routledge was detained by Taliban intelligence. Astonishingly, he described this eight-month detainment as his “most enjoyable holiday yet,” even stating that he had befriended members of the Taliban government and had been invited back. Such comments only added to his notoriety, as they highlighted his willingness to embrace risky and questionable situations for the sake of content.
However, it is his recent comments that have sparked widespread outrage. On August 20, 2024, Routledge made a series of offensive remarks on social media, targeting India and Africa. In response to a message from an unknown user who allegedly threatened him, Routledge mocked the Indian accent, posting, “Saar okay lord saar good luck saar haha saar,” and shared his detailed address online. This post was met with immediate criticism, with many accusing him of racism.
Routledge’s most alarming comment, however, involved a “joke” about launching nuclear weapons against India. He shared a video of US President Joe Biden and wrote, “When I become prime minister of England, I’ll open the nuclear silos as an explicit warning to any foreign power that interferes with British interests and affairs. I’m not talking huge incidents; I’m itching to launch and atomize entire nations over the smallest infraction.” This disturbing statement further fueled the backlash against him, with social media users condemning his reckless and dangerous rhetoric.
The controversy surrounding Routledge continued to escalate as he made another offensive comment about overpopulation in India and Africa. He suggested that if reincarnated, he would want to return as a virus to reduce the population in these regions, a statement that was met with widespread disgust.
The online community has been quick to denounce Routledge’s actions, with many urging social media platforms to take action against him. Users have called for accountability, highlighting the harmful impact of his words and the need to address such offensive behavior. As the backlash continues, Routledge’s reputation as a controversial figure remains firmly intact, with his recent actions only adding to the growing list of criticisms against him.
