Mysterious signal continues for nine days throughout the world, scientists puzzled

Scientists who were in charge of monitoring seismic activity worldwide detected a mysterious signal in September 2023. This was recorded everywhere from the Arctic to Antarctica and nothing similar was ever seen before.
This signal was not anything like the usual earthquake rumbles but it was a continuous hum with only one vibration frequency and it lasted for nine days straight. The puzzled researchers and scientists classified this signal as “USO” or Unidentified Seismic Object at first.
However, they came to realise that it was due to a massive landslide which was tracked back to Greenland. Large amounts of rock and ice which was enough to fill 10,000 Olympic swimming pools, had plunged into Greenland’s Dickson Fjord. Due to this, a mega-tsunami emerged with a wave as high as 200 meters high, twice the height of London’s Big Ben. It also triggered a seiche, a back-and-forth wave in the fjord continuing for nine days.
The landslides were caused by the thinning of the glacier which is a result of global warming. Published in the journal “Science”, a new study stated, “Our findings highlight how climate change is causing cascading, hazardous feedbacks between the cryosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere.”
Over decades the glacier has lost tens of meters in thickness And that has weakened themountains’s support. And the collapsing of the mountain sent vibrations through the Earth which shook the planet and created seismic waves worldwide.
As all the glaciers thin and the permafrost layer warms, the chances of landslides and tsunamis increase significantly. The Dickson Fjord incident highlights how climate change is affecting the stability of Earth’s crust besides affecting weather patterns and sea level.
Scientists have also said that more of these unfortunate climatic hazard might continue occurring as the planet warms further.
