News Mania Desk/ Sohom Chatterjee / 16th September 2024

The Indian Men’s cricket team is due to face Bangladesh in a two-match test series, the first match of which starts this Thursday at the Chepauk Stadium, Chennai. Batter Rohit Sharma will be leading the Indian side in this series.

However, apart from aiming for victory for the team, the ‘Hitman’ will also be setting his eyes on some international records that he can break during this series.

Rohit has been in great form since last year across all formats. Additionally, his form in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 is quite appreciable as he has scored 700 runs so far in nine matches and 16 innings with an average of 46.66. In the course of this competition, Sharma has registered three centuries and three fifties. Currently, he is the 12th-highest run-scorer in the Test Championship.

Looking ahead, he has two short-term milestones that look achievable in the upcoming series against Bangladesh. The first one is the prospect of becoming India’s top six-hitter in test cricket. Rohit currently stands second with 84 sixes, seven behind the leading hitter Virender Sehwag who has 91. He even has the opportunity to become the first Indian batter to cross the 100 sixes hit record in tests.

The Indian batter also has the chance to increase his tally of international centuries to 50 as he stands at 48 centuries in 483 matches. He will become the third Indian to cross the half-century of centuries after Sachin Tendulkar (100 centuries) and Virat Kohli (80 centuries).

India will be facing New Zealand at home and Australia away after the Bangladesh series.

India’s squad for the 1st Test against Bangladesh: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.
