The Sky Blues have started their 2024-25 Premier League season in a dominant manner. So far in their four games, they have registered four wins and have collected all 12 points available to top the PL points table.

On Sunday, Pep Guardiola & Co. beat Brentford 2-1 despite conceding an early goal as Yoane Wissa scored in the opening minutes. Erling Haaland’s two-goal brace secured their fourth victory of the season as the Norwegian striker extended his goal tally further.

The Etihad outfit has become the first PL side to win the title for four consecutive seasons. Now they aim to build upon this record further.

Speaking after the match, manager Pep Guardiola reflected on the match by saying, “It’s important we don’t drop points, it’s a good lesson. We were lucky with the deflection Erling scored. The players know it. That’s why, at halftime, I didn’t say anything.”

“There will be a lot of surprises with this number of games, and one day we are going to drop points. With a really tough game, we survived, and with our mentality, we adjusted. We did really well with our process to find the right moments.”

The Manchester side will also be starting their Champions League campaign this Wednesday. This season, UCL is going through a change and will be introducing a new competition format that will see each team playing eight games against eight different opponents.

Commenting on the new format, the Spanish manager said, “[I’ve] no opinion. They decide to do this. UEFA decides this. We want to be there, so we will play that format. [There are] more games, but it is what it is. What can we do? On Wednesday, we play the best team in Italy, and then on Sunday, we play the best contender of the last two seasons.”

“Then Tuesday another game. We have an academy. We have to adapt. I like to play Champions League, so we are going to play.”
