Delhi: 30-year-old arrested for filming woman tenant with hidden cameras in Shakarpur

As per Delhi Police, on September 24, Tuesday, a 30-year-old man has been captured in Shakarpur of East Delhi for allegedly installing spy cameras in a woman tenant’s house to film her.
The officials confirmed that this incident came into the woman’s notice as the victim, a competitive exam aspirant living alone in Shakarpur, found unusual activity on her WhatsApp which prompted her to check for hidden cameras and surveillance devices.
She found her WhatsApp account to be logged into an unknown laptop and searched her home to find a hidden camera installed in the bulb holder of her room. Then she notified the police about this by making a PCR call.
After receiving this information , a team of officials from PS Shakarpur reached the house and conducted a thorough search of the premises and discovered another camera hidden in the bulb holder of the bathroom.
The woman told the police that she often handed over the keys to the landlord’s son, Karan, which was also given to him three months prior to her hometown visit in Uttar Pradesh.
Karan confessed about his wrongdoings during interrogation that three months ago, when the lady had left for her hometown, he took advantage of the keys being left with him and purchased and installed three spy cameras in her bedroom and bathroom, as confirmed by officials.
They also added that as the cameras used memory cards to store videos and could not be operated remotely, the criminal persistently asked for the keys under the pretext of repairing electrical fixtures and fans, in order to transfer those recorded videos to his laptop.
Police recovered one spy camera and two laptops used to store the recorded videos. A case has been registered under Section 77 of the BNS Act and the accused has been taken into custody.
The officials stated, “The arrested accused has been identified as Karan, a resident of Shakarpur. He was preparing for competitive exams for the last 7 years but could not succeed. He is physically challenged.” Further investigation is going on into the same.
