An 11-year-old girl’s body was discovered in a canal after she went missing on Friday night. The child was allegedly raped before her body was dumped into the canal, according to the girl’s family and the villagers. After the girl’s body was found, the district saw widespread demonstrations.

The girl went missing while reportedly making her way home from her tuition classes. Her family filed a report with the local police station after becoming quite alarmed. On the other hand, they claim that rather than getting help, the cops harassed them. When the girl’s body was found this morning, many locals came together to voice their outrage over what had happened.

They feel that this sad outcome was caused in part by the police’s alleged failure to respond promptly.Several recordings of villagers—mostly women—leading street demonstrations and calling for the accused to be held accountable have appeared online. After the police failed to file the complaint in a timely manner, residents are shown encircling and confronting officials in another video.A video also shows residents fighting with police officers and throwing stones and sticks at a police station. Out of rage, the villagers also destroyed motorcycles and other pieces of public property.

BJP politician Amit Malviya, via an X post, attacked the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government over the police’s inability to register a case.

“During Durga Puja, as West Bengal celebrates Devi Shakti, women and girls are unsafe. Unless Asuri Shaktis, at the helm of the State’s affair, are not defeated, crimes against women will continue, unabated. Mamata Banerjee has to GO for women to be safe in Bengal,” he tweeted.
