A corporate representative announced on Friday that Alphabet’s Google is testing the display of check marks next to certain businesses on its search results. The goal of this initiative is to assist customers in identifying reliable sources and avoiding phony websites. Phishing websites posing as legitimate companies or services may appear in internet search results, misleading consumers and possibly damaging the company’s reputation by providing inaccurate information.Google already employs automated technologies to detect and block pages that include “scammy” or fraudulent content from appearing in search results.
“We regularly experiment with features that help shoppers identify trustworthy businesses online, and we are currently running a small experiment showing checkmarks next to certain businesses on Google,” the spokesperson said.
The Verge first reported on the development earlier on Friday, stating that they had noticed blue confirmed checkmarks on search results next to links to the official websites of firms like Apple, Microsoft, and Meta. The Verge reported that just a small number of people could see the functionality, suggesting that Google has not yet extensively distributed the test.
