Zoom launches phone services in Pune

Zoom, a video communications company, announced on Thursday the opening of its Zoom Phone service in India. The Maharashtra Telecom Circle (Pune) would be the first area to offer local India phone numbers.
The service will eventually be extended to telecom circles in Delhi, Mumbai, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, covering all of India’s key technology hubs, according to the company.The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) granted Zoom India a Unified License with Access – All/PAN India and Long Distance in April 2023. Following this, the business concentrated on building out domestic infrastructure specifically for the service.

“Zoom’s cloud PBX service meets the requirements of India’s Unified Telecom licence, which mandates building dedicated local interconnection infrastructure in accordance with regulatory requirements. This demonstrates Zoom’s commitment to bringing a trusted service that our customers want,” said VelchamySankarlingam, president of product and engineering, Zoom.

“Our latest offering reaffirms Zoom’s leadership in delivering seamless cloud services on a global scale, enhanced by local investments to help ensure compliance and service excellence in every market, including India,” he added.

The company claims that by introducing this innovative licensed cloud private branch exchange (PBX) service with local phone numbers for India, “Zoom will lead the industry.”
Additionally offering local phone services, Zoom Phone is an add-on for Zoom’s current paying customers. AI Companion features are also added to the service to increase call productivity.
