Manipur congress slams ED
News Mania / Piyal Chatterjee / 9th October 2024
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons to Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President K Meghachandra Singh has been denounced. The move was condemned by MPCC senior spokesperson N Bupenda Meitei, who called it “politics of vendetta.”
Meitei highlighted Meghachandra’s involvement in boldly raising concerns against the BJP regimes in Manipur and the Center during her media appearance at Congress Bhawan. He said that in the midst of the state’s ongoing unrest since May 2023, Meghachandra has been a steadfast supporter of the people, exposing the shortcomings of these administrations.
“Meghachandra, as president and an elected legislator, has fearlessly spoken out against the double-engine BJP government at both the Centre and the state. He represents the voice of the people, highlighting the government’s failures and working tirelessly for the welfare of the state,” he said.
The ED summons, which demanded that Meghachandra appear in New Delhi on October 7, 2024, was delivered to his residence. Meitei observed that Meghachandra couldn’t possibly make it at such short notice. In relation to a PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act of 2002) inquiry, Meghachandra Singh ‘failed’ to appear before the Enforcement Directorate on Monday.
“This action is nothing but the politics of vendetta, vengeance, harassment, and revenge,” Meitei said. He further accused the Union Government of trying to cover up its “colossal failures” in Manipur, pointing out Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s refusal to visit the state during the crisis. “The Congress cannot be intimidated, and Rahul Gandhi is a fearless leader. We will not remain silent; this ED summons will not silence us. We will continue to advocate for the people of the state and the country, consistently exposing the failures of the double-engine government,” Meitei added.
