Baba Siddique, 66, a seasoned politician from Maharashtra and the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was shot and killed on Saturday evening, October 12. He has long been a member of the Indian National Congress (INC), and from 2004 to 2008, he was a state minister in the Congress-NCP administration. Siddique was also well-known for hanging out with Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, two of Bollywood’s biggest stars. The three shooters who killed Siddique were connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, according to Mumbai police. Here are some facts concerning the organization and its illegal activities.
A prosperous farmer from the Dhattaranwali hamlet in the Ferozepur district of Punjab is the father of 31-year-old Lawrence Bishnoi. He is a member of the Bishnoi community, which has made its home in Punjab, Haryana, and several regions of Rajasthan.After completing Class 12, Bishnoi moved to Chandigarh in 2010 to attend college. He entered student politics after enrolling at DAV College, and from 2011 to 2012, he served as president of the Student Organization of Punjab University (SOPU).
According to his criminal dossier, Lawrence Bishnoi was first charged with attempting to commit murder, then in April 2010, he was then charged with trespassing. A cell phone robbery and assault lawsuit was filed against him in February 2011. The three instances all had something to do with student politics.Jaswinder Singh, also known as Rocky, a former criminal who is now a politician from Fazilka, Punjab, eventually joined his organization. Under the guise of student politics, the gang continued to operate in some areas of Rajasthan, including Bharatpur and Sri Ganganagar, which are situated on the Rajasthan-Punjab border. In May 2016, Rocky, who also had a criminal history, was killed in the Himachal Pradesh town of Parwanoo. Jaipal Bhullar, a notorious mobster, had admitted to the murder. Later, Bhullar was shot dead in Kolkata.
The most notorious incident involving Lawrence Bishnoi was probably the shooting death of Punjabi artist Sidhu Moosewala in 2022. Gang member Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the killing. Brar was based outside of Canada and visited the country for the first time in 2017. It is also thought that Bishnoi has other helpers in the US and Canada.According to a social media post allegedly made by Goldy Brar, Moosewala’s murder was a retaliatory homicide done to get retribution for the death of young Akali Dal leader Vikramjit Singh, also known as Vicky Middukhera. Under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Center identified Brar as a terrorist earlier this year.
“With Mumbai’s underworld gangs led by Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Rajan and Ravi Pujari, among others, largely neutralised over the past decade and a half, police suspect the Bishnoi gang, which has so far been active mainly in the northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and (western) UP, is attempting to step into this vacuum.” Said the police
According to a police officer, Khan’s shooting of a blackbuck in Rajasthan is frequently linked to Bishnoi’s objectives because the Bishnoi group holds the animal in high regard. The officer did add, though, that Khan’s targeting might be an attempt by the mobster to become more well-known
