Religious organizations in Madhya Pradesh have called for protests against senior IAS officer Shailbala Martin after the official’s social media post questioned whether the public address system at temples was contributing to noise pollution. The death of a 13-year-old child during the Durga idol immersion in Bhopal last week sparked a discussion over the public address system’s role in noise pollution. The boy died on Friday after suddenly collapsing while dancing to a DJ song.
The occurrence sparked a debate on the subject and prompted the Madhya Pradesh Police to respond quickly to begin an investigation into the case. The usage of public address systems in mosques and the frequency of DJs performing outside of these establishments prompted a journalist on the social media site X to inquire about the discrepancy in enforcement.
In response to the post, IAS officer Shailbala Martin questioned why such disturbances, which can be heard for many streets and last late into the night, are frequently disregarded and claimed that noise pollution from public address systems in temples is a problem.
However, Chandrashekhar Tiwari, the head of the right-wing group Sanskriti Bachao Manch, took issue with the officer’s post and declared that they will protest against him. Congress spokesperson Abbas Hafeez, meanwhile, stated that IAS officer Shailbala Martin had posed a legitimate query. “A senior officer has raised questions on the BJP government’s biased action against the public address system,” Hafeez stated. Shailbala Martin, an officer from the 2009 class, has never before questioned the acts of the administration.
At the moment, Martin works at the General Administration Department (GAD) as the Additional Secretary. Before being elevated to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) on June 12, 2017, she started her career in the State Civil Service (SCS). She has worked in a variety of capacities, including as the Health Department’s 2014 representative, Burhanpur’s municipal commissioner in 2019, and the district’s collector in Niwari in 2019. She has worked in the General Administration Department since January 25, 2022, as Additional Secretary.
