A primary school teacher from Delhi is gaining popularity online thanks to a video of a class exercise that she posted on social media. The arm span-to-height ratio was illustrated in the video, which was posted on Instagram by Sapna, a primary school teacher. To date, it has had over 16 million views. As the video begins, Sapna is guiding her students through the task. She extends one hand to the chalkboard, bends the other arm toward the floor, and urges one student to come forward.
After that, she gives the student instructions to mark the spot on the board where her outstretched hand touches it. In order to demonstrate that her height equals the indicated point, Sapna continues to stand erect. This shows that her arm span is almost equal to her height, a phenomenon called the one-to-one arm span-to-height ratio.
In addition to leaving students speechless, the video inspired social media users to commend her demonstration’s simplicity in the post’s comments section. One user commented, “Enlightening,” while another added, “Acharya Charak already mentioned this.” Similar discoveries about the human body were made by the ancient Ayurvedic scholar Acharya Charak.
Sapna’s method showcased an ancient observation on human proportions in a way that was easy for her little students to understand.
