Fire in Nam Joo Hyuk’s new K-drama location: On the set of ‘East Palace’ building catches fire.

Firefighters heroically battled a possible fire threat on a drama set purportedly used to film the Netflix series “East Palace” (working title).Over a week ago, the streaming giant announced that South Korean stars Nam Joo Hyuk (Twenty Five Twenty One), Roh Yoon Seo (Crash Course in Romance), and Cho Seung Woo (Divorce Attorney Shin) will star in the supernatural sageuk (historical drama). It will portray a “never-before-seen world of ghosts and spirits.” The series was directed by Choi Jung Kyu of The Devil Judge and written by Kwon So Ra and Seo Jea Won of Bulgasal: Immortal Souls.
On December 21, K-media revealed a heartbreaking development on the set of a forthcoming Korean drama. At 2:08 a.m. KST, a fire broke out at the Netflix show’s filming location in Misan-myeon, Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Fortunately, the fire service issued a “Level 1” reaction to the sudden fire outbreak, dispatching firemen and equipment from three to seven fire stations. The flaming scenario was resolved in around two hours.
Although no deaths were recorded, a structure on the 3,655 m-square set and some lighting equipment were destroyed.As the series is still in its early phases of production with no release date in sight, it is unclear how the incendiary event would affect its timeline. Meanwhile, the ongoing inquiry is still to determine the actual cause of the incident.
The recently announced South Korean serial is Nam Joo Hyuk’s debut K-drama since finishing his required military duty in September 2024. According to an official Netflix press release, he “can traverse the world of ghosts and defeat them with his sword” as Gu Cheon. On the other side, Roh Yoon Seo portrays Saeng Gang, “a court lady born with the ability to hear ghosts,” and Cho Seung Woo plays the complicated King’s character, “who quietly enlists these two extraordinary people to take care of the palace’s curse.”
