A video highlighting the change of an IIT-Bombay alumnus, Abhey Singh, into a saffron-robed “baba” at the Maha Kumbh 2025 has become viral. Singh, who asserts that he is a former aerospace engineering student, abandoned his career to follow spirituality. In the meantime, the fresh viral video features Singh from his time at IIT Bombay. The video that was initially posted on Instagram has garnered almost a million likes and numerous comments. Since that time, the identical video has been shared on different social media platforms, such as YouTube.
In the original video, Singh said: “I studied for four years at IIT-Bombay… Did MDS from there. But there was something amiss. Soon, I developed interest in arts and photography and had to teach physics at a coaching centre for one year to clear the entrance test.”
When asked about the reason behind his career shift, Singh said: “I have finally understood the truth… Gyan Ke Peeche Chalte Jao, Chalte Jao, Aur Kahan Jaoge, Yahin Aoge”
As Singh’s videos began circulating on social media, IIT-Bombay quickly became a trending topic, sparking an online debate. Singh, who is also quite active on social media, currently has 4,145 followers on Instagram.
Commenting on the transformation video, one user wrote: “People don’t realise that purpose colleges and higher studies is to gather knowledge and not securing jobs that is the later stage. Toh Mai Apni Degree Lene Ke Baad Sanyaas Lelu Yaa 15 lpa Ki Naukri Karu Yaa highest package in college Le Jaau Ya startup Chaalu Kardu Meri choice Hai. Mera motive education Aur knowledge Tha Maine Wo Kar Liya.”
