The 15th National Voters’ Day (NVD) will be observed nationwide on January 25th. This year’s festivities occur shortly after the historic and successful execution of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, the biggest democratic event globally. The Election Commission commemorates 75 years of its committed service to the country.
The event, honoring the voters of the nation, once more takes on a grand scale this year as India’s total electorate nears the 100 crore milestone. The electoral database currently reaches 99.1 crore and continues to grow. The voter lists present a vibrant and gender-equitable appearance, comprising 21.7 crores of young voters aged 18-29, alongside a 6-point rise in the Electoral Gender Ratio, increasing from 948 in 2024 to 954 in 2025.
The esteemed President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu will attend the national event in New Delhi as the Chief Guest. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge), Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal will honor the event as the Guest of Honour, alongside the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commissioners presiding over the gathering. The conference will also see the participation of Heads and representatives from Election Management bodies who will discuss significant challenges encountered in global election management at a 2-day conference on January 23-24, 2025, organized by ECI.
This Year’s Theme “Nothing Compares to Voting, I Vote with Confidence” builds on last year’s theme, highlighting the significance of engaging in the electoral process and motivating voters to take pride in casting their votes. At the event, the Hon’ble President will award the Best Electoral Practices Awards to state and district officials who showcased outstanding performance in facilitating the smooth execution of elections. Particular acknowledgment will be awarded to efforts that boosted voter engagement, including creative outreach initiatives, the application of technology for efficient election administration, and measures that ensured elections were accessible to everyone.
The initial edition of the ECI Coffee Table Book named “India Votes 2024: A saga of democracy” will be handed to the Hon’ble President by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar. The publication serves as a homage to every voter, election official, security personnel, and all the contributors who made the 18th Lok Sabha elections successful. It will provide readers an insight into India’s democratic path during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 via striking visuals and engaging stories.
A brief preview of the forthcoming docu-drama series “India Decides,” created by Warner Bros Discovery, will be unveiled at the event. The three-part series explores in detail the history and creation of the largest elections globally. The docu-drama series is set to premiere on the discovery channel along with its OTT platforms. An ECI publication titled “Belief in the Ballot: Human stories shaping India’s 2024 elections” will be handed over to the Hon’ble President by the Commission. The book is a carefully selected collection of human interest narratives that differentiate these elections.
A multimedia display emphasizing essential elements of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will also be presented. It will feature engaging and immersive areas for participants to explore.
Since 2011, January 25 has been celebrated each year as National Voters’ Day to honor the establishment day of the Election Commission of India, which was founded on January 25, 1950, just one day prior to India becoming a Republic. This event seeks to emphasize the importance of the voter and enhance electoral awareness among the population, encouraging their active involvement in the democratic process. Focused on the nation’s electorate, National Voters’ Day also encourages the registration of new voters, especially youth who have just become eligible. Throughout the nation, fresh voters are celebrated and given their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) at NVD events.
Observed at national, state, district, constituency, and polling booth levels, NVD is recognized as one of the nation’s most extensive and important celebrations.
