The Economic Survey 2025, unveiled in Parliament today, highlights the significant advancements achieved in India’s infrastructure sector, propelled by the government’s tactical policies and ongoing development initiatives.
The Hon’ble Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, praised these developments, emphasizing their vital importance in promoting inclusive and sustainable growth.
“The survey reaffirms the significant strides we have taken in strengthening the urban infrastructure. The expansion of metro rail networks crossing the 1000 km of network length has greatly enhanced urban mobility, making cities more accessible and efficient. Additionally, the achievements of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan have played a transformative role in improving sanitation and cleanliness across the country. These efforts are key to realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat, ensuring modern, sustainable, and well-connected infrastructure for every citizen,” the Union Minister stated.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), initiated in 2015, has approved 1.18 crore homes, with 89 lakh finished by November 2024. PMAY-U 2.0 intends to support an additional 1 crore households. The Smart Cities Mission has finished 7,479 projects valued at ₹1.50 lakh crore, encompassing over 35,000 affordable housing units, 1,700 km of smart roads, and 16 lakh LED streetlights. AMRUT has increased tap water accessibility to 70%, expanded sewerage to 62%, and introduced 5,070 acres of greenery in 500 cities.
By maintaining a strong emphasis on intelligent urban planning, improved public transit, and sustainable growth, the government is dedicated to creating an infrastructure ecosystem that is prepared for the future, which fosters economic development and enhances the quality of life for everyone, stated Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal.
