Bengal woman, trying to escape ‘drunk’ eve teasers, dies in road accident

A 27-year-old woman lost her life in a traffic accident in Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal while attempting to flee from harassers who were pursuing her in a different vehicle. The victim, who worked in event management, lived in Chinsurah, Hooghly, according to a report.

According to police, the deceased was traveling to Gaya with three colleagues for an event when the accident occurred in Panagarh at approximately 9:30 pm on Sunday. They mentioned that two additional individuals traveling with her also suffered severe injuries. The victim and her coworkers had filled their car with gas at a service station in the area when a white vehicle with five occupants started to trail them, according to a senior police official.

“As soon as they got onto the highway, the men in the other car started making lewd remarks towards the victim and began driving recklessly,” the officer told .

Subsequently, the vehicle allegedly obstructed the deceased’s car perilously near a road divider, leading to its overturning. As the victim occupied the front seat, she sustained life-threatening injuries. The officer stated that although she was hurried to a nearby hospital, she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Shortly after the incident, the purported eve-teasers deserted their vehicle and escaped the location. According to police, both the victim’s and the suspects’ vehicles have been confiscated, and an FIR has been registered at the Kanksa police station. As per preliminary probe, the five men were in an inebriated state while driving at the time of the incident. “We found glasses inside the car with traces of alcohol,” the officer said. Meanwhile, the owner of the vehicle has been identified as a resident of Panagarh.
