Seven years after its entry into the Indian market, Swedish furniture retailer Ikea has introduced its online delivery service in the Delhi-NCR area, with sales starting on March 1.
The company has further extended its online ordering and delivery services to nine satellite cities throughout North India, which are Agra, Prayagraj, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, and Varanasi. Residents in these cities can now browse and purchase from the Ikea collection online through its website, app, and Shop by Phone service.
“My heart is full of joy and excitement as we announce our entry into the North of India. This is a critical piece in our journey in the country, and we at Ikea aim to be the No. 1 retailer in India’s largest home furnishings market,” said Susanne Pulverer, chief executive officer and chief sustainability officer, Ikea India, in a LinkedIn post.
Ikea will continue its hybrid omni-channel approach, prioritizing online sales prior to opening physical locations. As per media sources, the firm intends to launch its Gurugram center in 2026 and the Noida outlet in 2028. The company is set to introduce 50 electric vehicles for deliveries in the Delhi-NCR region.
Ikea started its physical retail presence in India in 2018 by launching its first store in Hyderabad. Since that time, it has opened blue box stores in Navi Mumbai (2020), Mumbai (2021), and Bengaluru (2022).
