Netflix and NASA have revealed a collaboration that will introduce live space content to the streaming service later this summer. Subscribers will have the opportunity to view ad-free livestreams of rocket launches, astronaut spacewalks, mission coverage, and live Earth views from the International Space Station, accessible via NASA+, the space agency’s streaming platform launched in 2023.
Netflix users will have access to NASA+ programming at no extra charge. This action represents Netflix’s recent attempt to broaden its live content range, which has historically centered around original productions, stand-up comedy, award ceremonies, and sporting events. Recent projects have featured live WWE broadcasts, celebrity golf competitions, and a collaboration with France’s TF1 to stream reality shows and sports events.
For NASA, the collaboration is an element of a larger plan to extend its presence across key digital platforms. The agency strives to enhance the accessibility and engagement of its scientific and space exploration efforts for audiences worldwide. In a statement, NASA mentioned that the partnership with Netflix aims to “boost engagement and inspire a worldwide audience in today’s media environment,” utilizing the platform’s audience of more than 700 million globally.
Regardless of the collaboration, NASA+ will still function independently and remain accessible for free through the agency’s official website and app, which can be found on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.
