According to a tender notice issued by the agency, the Public Works Department will begin renovations on Bungalow Number 1 located on Raj Niwas Marg, the new official residence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in the first half of July. According to PWD officials who requested anonymity, the initial renovation phase will concentrate on updating and enhancing electrical fittings, while additional civil works for the bungalow and changes to the CM’s camp office, a nearby structure, will be addressed through separate tenders.

As per the tender released on June 28, the suggested enhancements feature 14 air conditioning units, 10 floodlights, chandeliers, wall lighting fixtures, and an electric chimney, among other elements. Bids will be unveiled on July 4. As per the PWD tender, the overall expense of the initial phase stands at ₹60 lakh, encompassing the supply, installation, and commissioning of these units and appliances, with a timeline of 60 days for execution.

The structure was utilized as an office for the L-G Secretariat rather than as a home. A PWD official mentioned that significant renovation and upgrades are necessary to make it livable for the CM’s family. The CMO did not reply to questions regarding the matter.

The PWD official stated that 80 light points, fan connections, exhausts, and additional areas would need to be entirely rewired. A total of twenty-three high-quality energy-efficient ceiling fans, sixteen wall fans, and twenty-four two-tonne air conditioners will be installed, with the air-conditioning expected to cost approximately ₹11,11,342, as outlined in the PWD tender. For lighting, the bungalow will be outfitted with 115 sets of lamps, wall sconces, pendant lights, and three large chandeliers at a cost of ₹6,03,939, according to the tender.

“This (brass and glass lantern wall lights)unit is the epitome of timeless elegance. Crafted with exquisite attention to detail, this stunning fixture effortlessly combines classic brass with delicate glass panels, creating a breathtaking ambiance in any professional setting,” the PWD said in its specifications.

The entrance area and drawing room will feature one large brass frame glass chandelier with six LED bulbs and two smaller units. “The chandelier exudes sophistication, while the delicate glass shades cast a warm and inviting glow throughout the room,” the specifications stated.

In addition to the electric chimney, the kitchen will also feature a gas hob with electromagnetic burners, a 20-litre microwave, an LCD toast grill, and a water purifier. The tender includes six geysers, a washing machine, a dishwasher, and a bigger RO water plant with a capacity to process 50 liters per hour.

Five 4k ultra HD LED smart TVs—four 55-inch models and one 65-inch model—are also available for purchase. A new security setup will include 14 cameras and 10 LED flood lights installed in the compound, along with a new intercom system. The CM presently resides in her personal home in Shalimar Bagh.

Prior to her election, she stated unequivocally that she would not relocate to her predecessor’s home at 6, Flagstaff Road, labeling it a “representation of corruption” from the former Aaam Aadmi Party administration. The opposition referred to the structure as “Sheesh Mahal” after it came to light that ₹33.66 crore was used for upgrades and renovations. Bungalow number 1, classified as a Type VII house (the second highest grade in official classifications), features four bedrooms with attached bathrooms, a drawing room, a visitors’ hall, a servant’s room, and a kitchen, along with a lawn and a backyard.
