Former President Ram Nath Kovind has been a strong proponent of yoga, describing it as India’s timeless gift to the world. On June 21, 2022, while addressing the 8th International Yoga Day celebrations at Rashtrapati Bhavan, he stated, “Yoga is India’s gift to humanity,” urging citizens to incorporate it into their daily lives for holistic well-being.

Earlier, on December 29, 2018, during an event marking the centenary of The Yoga Institute in Mumbai, Kovind emphasized that yoga transcends barriers, saying, “It is the priceless gift given to the whole world by India.” He reiterated that yoga is not linked to any particular religion or community, but is a universal practice for harmony and health.

In a historic moment on June 21, 2018, Kovind joined Suriname’s President in Paramaribo to jointly perform yoga on International Yoga Day—marking the first time two heads of state participated in the global celebration together.

“On the occasion of International Yoga Day, I extend my heartfelt wishes to all. This year’s theme — “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” — reminds us of the holistic well-being yoga brings to individuals and the planet. Let us embrace yoga as a way of life. #InternationalYogaDay”

Through these actions and statements, Kovind consistently highlighted yoga’s unifying and spiritual essence, positioning it as a symbol of India’s cultural diplomacy and its commitment to global wellness. This year also he took to twitter to announce his heartfelt wishes on International Yoga Day
