A 75-year-old woman named Kaushalya Devi from Dehradun is fighting for her life after being attacked by two Rottweiler dogs near her home on Sunday during her morning walk.

The elderly woman was quickly taken to Doon Hospital for care. Nonetheless, because of her deteriorating health, she was subsequently transferred to a private hospital where she had several surgeries. The doctors state that the woman’s condition is still critical. In the meantime, the CCTV footage of the incident has spread widely on social media.

The family of the woman lodged a police report against the dog owner, Mohammed Zaid, following the attack. Police arrested the owner of the aggressive rottweiler dogs on Monday, . Authorities have launched an inquiry and are examining the lack of oversight in managing the dogs.

Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh stated that based on the complaint filed by Umang Nirwal, the son of Kaushalya Devi, a case was filed against the dog owner under applicable sections.

It is important to mention that Rottweilers are recognized as an aggressive dog breed and are prohibited in numerous countries. In India, there are no stringent regulations concerning the ownership of such dog breeds at present, yet events like this provoke apprehensions. Previously, the central government, in reaction to reports of attacks where some individuals were killed by “dangerous breeds” of dogs, prohibited the importation, breeding, purchase, and sale of 23 foreign dog breeds, such as rottweilers, pitbulls, and American bulldogs.
