The Calcutta High Court praised the Kolkata Police for their effective handling of traffic on the occasion of the Trinamool Congress’s Shaheed Diwas rally. Justice Tirthankar Ghosh lauded the police for ensuring smooth vehicular movement and maintaining order, particularly between 9 AM and 11 AM, as per the court’s prior directive to keep Central Kolkata accessible for officegoers.

The court had earlier instructed that no political processions should enter the city’s central business district, including a five-kilometre radius around the High Court, during office hours. On the rally day, Justice Ghosh personally acknowledged the police’s performance, noting that his own commute had been hassle-free. He also issued a symbolic certificate of appreciation to the police.

Despite the smooth conditions, the judge expressed concern over the low attendance of lawyers in court and asked for them to be present by 10:30 AM, dismissing traffic excuses.

Looking ahead, Justice Ghosh suggested alternative venues like Brigade Parade Ground, Shahid Minar, or Salt Lake Stadium for future rallies to further minimise disruption.

The commendation highlights the successful balance between civic order and public gatherings in Kolkata’s sensitive administrative zone.
