New Delhi, August 12, 2025 — Leaders and supporters from multiple opposition parties staged a massive protest march today from Parliament House to the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters, demanding immediate action over what they allege is large-scale voter list fraud linked to the State Identification Register (SIR) system.
The protest, organized under a united opposition banner, saw MPs, state leaders, and hundreds of activists holding placards and chanting slogans. According to opposition leaders, the SIR—a centralized database intended to streamline voter identification—has been misused to delete genuine voters and include fictitious names, potentially influencing upcoming state and national elections.
Congress leader [Name], addressing the media before the march, said, “The sanctity of elections is under attack. We demand an independent audit of the SIR data and restoration of all illegally deleted voter names.” Other leaders from [list parties] joined in calling for judicial oversight and transparency in the voter list revision process.
The march culminated at the ECI office, where a memorandum outlining alleged irregularities and specific demands was submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner. Heavy police deployment ensured the protest remained peaceful, though traffic along Rajpath and Ashoka Road was disrupted for several hours.
Political analysts note that the issue strikes at the core of electoral credibility in the world’s largest democracy. Ensuring an accurate, tamper-proof voter list, they say, is essential to maintaining public trust in democratic institutions ahead of the 2026 general elections.
