On Wednesday, the Patna High Court ordered the Congress to take down a contentious AI-generated video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother Heerban that the party’s Bihar unit had shared on social media.
The party has been instructed by Acting Chief Justice PB Bajantri to take down the video from all social media sites.
On September 10, the Bihar Congress unit posted the 36-second video, marked “AI GENERATED” in which the “Prime Minister is seen dreaming about his late mother who is criticising him over his politics in poll-bound Bihar.”
The film was denounced by the BJP and NDA allies, who also charged that the Congress was using “shameful” tactics to attack the prime minister. Ahead of the crucial Bihar Assembly elections later this year, the party also implied that the film was made public as a political provocation.
Congress, on the other hand, has insisted that neither PM Modi nor his late mother have been treated disrespectfully. On September 13, Delhi Police opened a case against the Congress and its IT cell in relation to the video, following a complaint submitted by Sanket Gupta, convenor of the BJP Delhi Election Cell.
According to the complaint, which was filed with the North Avenue police station, the images are defamatory and violate PM Modi’s mother’s dignity as well as motherhood in general. The Prime Minister and his late mother have been embroiled in political turmoil twice in more than a month.
It is stated that slogans containing profanities aimed at PM Modi and Heeraben Modi were sung from the stage during the Congress and RJD-led “Voter Adhikar Yatra” in Darbhanga on August 27. The incident was “unimaginable” and “an insult to all mothers, sisters, and daughters of the country,” according to PM Modi’s scathing response. He emphasized his mother’s “nothing to do with politics” status.
