ED Attaches ₹7.44 Crore in Assets Linked to Former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 23rd September 2025

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached properties valued at ₹7.44 crore linked to companies allegedly controlled by former Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Kumar Jain. The action, taken on 15 September 2025, falls under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, and marks a significant step in the agency’s ongoing investigation into Jain’s financial dealings.

The probe traces its origins to a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case filed in 2017, which accused Jain of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income between February 2015 and May 2017 while serving as a minister in the Delhi government. A chargesheet was filed by the CBI in December 2018 against Jain, his wife Poonam Jain, and several associates.

In March 2022, the ED had previously attached assets worth ₹4.81 crore and filed a prosecution complaint, which was acknowledged by a Delhi court. With the latest attachment, the total value of assets now under ED control stands at ₹12.25 crore, which the agency claims represents the entirety of disproportionate assets acquired by Jain.

According to the ED, following the 2016 demonetisation, Jain’s close associates Ankush Jain and Vaibhav Jain deposited ₹7.44 crore in cash as advance tax under the Income Disclosure Scheme (IDS). They had declared assets worth ₹16.53 crore in the names of four companies, which authorities later determined were beneficially owned and controlled by Jain. The Income Tax Department and Delhi High Court classified these associates as benami holders for Jain, a decision upheld by the Supreme Court.

The ED has shared its findings with the CBI, which filed a supplementary chargesheet, further enhancing the value of disproportionate assets attributed to Jain. A supplementary prosecution complaint is expected to be filed soon, with the trial currently ongoing at the Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi.

Jain was arrested by the ED on 30 May 2022 for allegedly laundering money through shell companies linked to him. After more than two years in judicial custody, he was granted bail by a Delhi court. The latest asset attachment underscores continued scrutiny of his financial activities and ongoing legal proceedings.
