Trump Attacks UN in Fiery Speech, Takes Jabs at Escalator and Teleprompter Glitches

U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a blistering address at the United Nations General Assembly, accusing the world body of failing to deliver on its mandate and mocking it for technical mishaps during his appearance.

Trump began by ridiculing a faulty escalator and a malfunctioning teleprompter, quipping that these were the only things the UN had offered him. The lighthearted jibe quickly gave way to a forceful critique, with Trump charging that the organization was long on rhetoric but short on meaningful action in addressing global crises.

Despite his criticism, the president reassured that Washington remained “100% supportive” of the UN, though he argued the institution must prove its worth through results rather than speeches.

In his remarks, Trump highlighted his record in foreign policy, boasting that he had ended seven wars since returning to office. He suggested that such achievements merited global recognition, even hinting once again at a Nobel Peace Prize, though he said the true reward was ensuring safer futures for young generations.

Turning to the Ukraine war, Trump controversially accused India and China of being “primary funders” of Russia’s military campaign through their continued oil purchases. He called on Europe to toughen sanctions, not only against Moscow but also against countries engaged in trade with it.

On the Middle East, Trump criticized allies considering recognition of a Palestinian state, saying it amounted to rewarding Hamas for its “heinous acts,” particularly the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.

The president also warned Russia of “very strong tariffs” if President Vladimir Putin refuses to negotiate peace, while expressing confidence that NATO support would enable Ukraine to reclaim lost territory.
