‘Laapataa Ladies’ Sweeps 70th Filmfare Awards 2025 with Record 13 Wins

The 70th Filmfare Awards 2025, held at the EKA Arena in Ahmedabad, turned into a night of glory for Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, which dominated the ceremony with a record-breaking 13 awards, including Best Film and Best Director. The film’s stellar performance equaled the benchmark set by Gully Boy in 2019, reaffirming its place as one of the most celebrated films of the year.

Alia Bhatt created history by winning her sixth Best Actress Award for Jigra, surpassing the previous record of five awards each held by Nutan and Kajol. The Best Actor (Male) title was jointly awarded to Abhishek Bachchan for I Want To Talk and Kartik Aaryan for Chandu Champion, marking a rare tie in the category.

The Critics’ Choice Awards recognized Rajkummar Rao (Srikanth) and Pratibha Ranta (Laapataa Ladies) for their powerful performances. Laapataa Ladies also swept multiple technical honors, including Best Screenplay, Dialogue, Music Album, Lyrics, and Costume Design, highlighting the film’s all-round excellence. Arijit Singh received the Best Playback Singer (Male) award for a song from the same film, while Nitanshi Goel was named Best Debut Actress for her breakout role.

In the debut category, Lakshya won Best Debut Actor (Male) for Kill, and Kunal Kemmu (Madgaon Express) shared the Best Debut Director award with Aditya Suhas Jambhale (Article 370).

The star-studded event, hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, and Maniesh Paul, featured dazzling performances by Khan, Kriti Sanon, and Kajol. The Lifetime Achievement Awards were posthumously conferred upon Shyam Benegal and Zeenat Aman, while Achint Thakkar won the RD Burman Award for emerging musical talent.

The 2025 Filmfare Awards celebrated not only cinematic brilliance but also the evolving landscape of Indian storytelling, led by women-centric narratives and fresh creative voices.
