Delhi Man Cleared After Being Falsely Accused in Acid Attack Case

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 29th October 2025

A Delhi man, who was initially accused in an alleged acid attack case near Laxmi Bai College, has come forward to recount the distressing ordeal of being wrongfully implicated. The 35-year-old resident of Karol Bagh said he was at work when he received a call from the police informing him that his name had surfaced as a prime suspect in an acid assault on a 20-year-old woman in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area.

“I was working when the cops called. I was shocked because I hadn’t even left my workplace,” he said , adding that the accusation appeared to be a deliberate attempt to frame him. The alleged incident took place earlier this month, when the woman claimed she was attacked by him and two others. However, police investigation soon revealed inconsistencies in her statement.

CCTV footage, phone location data, and witness accounts confirmed that the man was at his workplace during the time of the alleged attack. Investigators later discovered that the woman’s family had conspired to stage the acid attack in order to falsely implicate the man, who had been in conflict with them for several months.

According to officials, the motive behind the fabricated accusation stemmed from a long-standing family dispute. The man’s wife had previously lodged a police complaint against the woman’s father for harassment, leading to his arrest in a separate rape case. The recent acid attack allegation, police believe, was an act of retaliation.

After clearing the man of all suspicion, police arrested the woman’s father and several others involved in the plot. Authorities have described the false accusation as a serious misuse of criminal law, warning that it not only tarnishes the lives of innocent individuals but also undermines genuine victims of acid violence.

The man said the experience has left him deeply shaken and fearful of social stigma. “My family went through hell. Even after being proven innocent, the damage is done,” he said. The police have confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the conspiracy and bring all responsible to justice.
