Ahmedabad Confirmed as Host City for 2030 Commonwealth Games

News Mania Desk /Piyal Chatterjee/27th November 2025

In a landmark announcement on November 26, 2025, the city of Ahmedabad has been officially named the host city for the 2030 edition of the Commonwealth Games. This decision comes after the city’s bid — backed by a comprehensive plan and government support — received final approval from the membership of Commonwealth Sport at the General Assembly in Glasgow.
Ahmedabad’s selection marks a historic moment for India, as it will be the first time since 2010 that the country hosts the Commonwealth Games — the previous edition having been held in New Delhi. The bid put forward emphasised a compact, sustainable, and modern Games footprint, built around world-class venues, upgraded transport infrastructure, and quality accommodation.
Central to the proposal is the upcoming Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, currently under development near the existing Narendra Modi Stadium. The enclave is planned to house multiple facilities — including an aquatics centre, a football stadium, indoor arenas, and an Athletes’ Village capable of accommodating around 3,000 athletes — designed to meet global standards and support a wide range of sports disciplines.
Support for the bid came from both the national and Gujarat state governments, including a Host Collaboration Agreement and necessary financial guarantees. The ambition aligns with India’s broader sports vision — not only delivering a high-profile global event but also strengthening its credentials for future aspirations, including hosting the Olympics.
With the official declaration in place, Ahmedabad is now poised to welcome the world in 2030 — offering a fresh arena for athletes and sporting fans, and presenting India with an opportunity to showcase its growing infrastructure, organisational capabilities, and commitment to global sports.
