Addressing reporters at a press conference in New Delhi, BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra leveled serious allegations, asserting that the Congress party, its dedicated social media team, and several “well-known faces from the Left parties” have been actively propagating a “false narrative” against the nation and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The spokesperson claimed this coordinated effort has been in motion since 2014, with the explicit goal of damaging the country’s international reputation.
Mr. Patra significantly escalated the nature of the charge by claiming that key elements of this misinformation network were operating their accounts from locations outside of India. This suggests, in the BJP’s view, a systematic effort utilizing foreign resources to amplify political criticism into a global smear campaign against the Indian state.
To support the party’s claims, the BJP cited a specific instance where, it alleged, opposition parties utilized foreign social media handles to fabricate and spread an untrue narrative related to “Special Intensive Revision-SIR.”
