Music Duo Accuse Amaal Mallik of False Claims Over “Bekhayali”; Social Media Divided

A fresh storm has hit the Hindi music industry after composer duo Sachet–Parampara publicly accused Amaal Mallik of making “false claims” about contributing to the hit track “Bekhayali” from the 2019 blockbuster Kabir Singh. The duo released a detailed Instagram video, asserting that Mallik had “no involvement whatsoever” in the creation of the song.

In their statement, Sachet Tandon and Parampara Thakur said the song was composed “in front of the entire Kabir Singh team,” including director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and actor Shahid Kapoor. “Every melody, every note, every emotion in Bekhayali was made in that room,” the duo said. “There was no outside reference, and certainly no input from Amaal Mallik.”

They also shared screenshots of old chats, claiming they directly contradict Mallik’s recent remarks. According to the duo, Mallik had earlier congratulated them on the success of the track — evidence, they say, that he never believed he had any creative stake in it. “Why speak up six years later?” they asked pointedly. “Why not when the song was released?”

Mallik had previously hinted that the song drew inspiration from musical references he shared, implying partial creative responsibility. Sachet–Parampara dismissed this as “completely fabricated,” adding, “Before Kabir Singh, we weren’t even associated with the label. How could we be anyone’s chosen favourites?”

The controversy has sharply divided listeners online. While supporters of the duo say they are finally confronting long-standing issues of credit theft in the industry, others argue that creative overlaps and casual references are common in music production — and not necessarily plagiarism.

Social media reactions range from outrage to skepticism. One fan wrote, “If they made it, give them the credit. Simple,” while another questioned the timing: “Why is this resurfacing after so many years?”

The dispute has reignited a familiar conversation in Bollywood about authorship, collaboration and accountability. As one industry insider commented, “Music credits in India have always been murky. This won’t be the last time we see a fight like this.”

Sachet–Parampara have demanded a public apology from Mallik, insisting they want the truth on record. Mallik has yet to issue a fresh response, but the industry is watching closely — and so are millions of fans who still hum Bekhayali six years after its release.
