The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will convene for the first time since the Bihar poll setback on December 27 to review the government’s plan to replace MGNREGA with the VB-G RAM G Bill as well as the overall political scenario.
While opposing the repeal of MGNREGA, the party intends to develop plans for the future assembly elections in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal in 2026. Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress, claimed that the law violates workers’ rights and referred to it as a “systematic murder of the world’s largest employment scheme.” The Lok Sabha enacted the VB-G RAM G Bill, which requires states to implement programs within six months and guaranteed 125 days of rural employment each year.
