Bajrang Dal Members Get Warm Reception After Bail in Raipur Mall Vandalism Case

News Mania Desk /Piyal Chatterjee/4th January 2026

Six Bajrang Dal members arrested in connection with the vandalism of Christmas decorations at a shopping mall in Raipur were released on bail and welcomed by supporters with celebratory scenes outside the city jail. The incident, which took place at Magneto Mall on Christmas Eve, had drawn public attention after videos surfaced showing individuals allegedly damaging festive installations and creating a disturbance inside the mall.

Following the circulation of the footage, police registered a case and arrested six men linked to the Bajrang Dal, citing damage to property and disturbance of public order. The episode gained prominence due to the timing of the incident during Christmas celebrations and the sensitivities surrounding religious harmony in public spaces.

After spending several days in judicial custody, the accused were granted bail by a sessions court. Their release from Raipur Central Jail, however, turned into a public spectacle as supporters gathered in large numbers to welcome them. Visuals from the scene showed the men being garlanded, lifted on shoulders, and escorted in a procession marked by slogans and drumbeats, creating a festive atmosphere outside the jail premises.

The celebratory welcome sparked sharp reactions from various quarters. Critics questioned the appropriateness of publicly honouring individuals accused of vandalism, arguing that such displays risk normalising unlawful behaviour and undermining respect for the legal process. Concerns were also raised about the potential impact of such celebrations on communal harmony, especially given that the alleged vandalism involved Christmas decorations in a shared public space.

Bajrang Dal leaders defended their members and the show of support, claiming the arrests were unwarranted and insisting that their members were innocent. They described the welcome as an expression of solidarity rather than an endorsement of vandalism. According to them, supporters gathered to protest what they viewed as unnecessary police action.

Police officials have stated that the case remains under investigation and that further action will be taken based on evidence presented in court. As legal proceedings continue, the incident has reignited debate on public conduct, accountability, and the role of organisations in ensuring peace and order during religious and cultural celebrations.
